If you believe in unicorns, I have good news! There is a magical unicorn society AND there’s an official handbook too!
I discovered The Magical Unicorn Society: Official Handbook in London Piccadilly’s Waterstones bookstore a few months ago when I was looking for a suitably magical ‘thank you’ gift. When I flicked through it, I wasn’t exactly sure of the age range it was aimed at, but I knew it was special and I couldn’t leave it there. I was under its spell and it was coming with me. A few weeks afterwards, I returned to buy a copy as another gift. I’m now running out of magical people of unicorn-appreciating years to buy this book for, so I thought I’d write about it here instead… Written by Selwyn E. Phipps and illustrated by Helen Dardik and Harry & Zanna Goldhawk (Papio Press), it was recently published by Michael O’Mara Books Ltd. Every illustrated page is a delight. It is both the children’s book that I wish I’d written, and the book that my unicorn-appreciating younger self would have absolutely treasured.
